Prepayment Penalty - A fee charged by a mortgage lender to a borrower who wants to pay off part or all of a mortgage loan in advance of schedule. The charge is generally expressed as a percentage of the loan balance at the time of prepayment, or it can be a specified number of months interest. It is not allowed for FHA or VA loans.
