The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act's (FACTA or FACT Act) gives consumers new rights to get free credit reports and also provides new rights to obtain your credit score. FACTA became law in December 2003. You may get one free copy of your credit report from any or all of the three major credit bureaus every 12 months. You may order your reports from all three companies by phone, letter or via the Web. Call 1-877-322-8228 to get your credit reports by phone. There is a simple verification process for security purposes and your reports will be mailed to you. Online, go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com. There is a verification process and you can view your credit reports immediatly FACTA aslo created the Financial Literacy and Education Commission. To reach the widest number of people possible, the Commission established a website (www.mymoney.gov) and a toll-free number, 1-888-MyMoney (696-6639). |
